General comments on the tests

The behaviour of candidates sitting the tests was good, however some children were not as well prepared as they could have been. Parents should make sure they talk to their children about exam technique and what to expect during an entrance exam.  Specifically:

  • It is not appropriate to eat during an exam
  • Children should bring with them only the stationery stipulated in the instructions
  • Children should try not to go to the toilet during an exam - it breaks their concentration and wastes precious time
  • Children should listen to the instructions given in the exam hall as to how to complete their paper - for example, if told to shade in the appropriate box in a multiple choice test they must do that and not ring or put a cross in the box
  • Try to work at a steady pace, move on to the next question if you don’t know the answer and try to answer all the questions.
  • Children should not wear smartwatches in an exam.  If they wore a smartwatch in a real entrance exam they would risk being disqualified
