Selective Eligibility Test ('SET') 11+ - information for the day of the test

Information for the day of the test:
 
As long as you have successfully registered for this test, you will be sent an email approximately one week before the test informing you of what test centre and what session you have been allocated to. 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ARRIVAL AND COLLECTION OF CANDIDATES

  • Do not attend the site if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, have tested positive or are otherwise required to self-isolate in line with current Government guidelines
  • Only one adult per candidate (no siblings if at all possible)
  • Out of respect for others we would encourage all adults to wear a face covering during drop off and collection unless exempt. Children may wear a face covering if they wish
  • Out of respect for others please be mindful of giving others their personal space
  • Please arrive within the designated time slot
  • Check the weather forecast and ensure you and your child are suitably dressed (you may need to be outside for a period of time).
  • Also, following current Government guidelines, the school will ensure exam rooms are well ventilated so your son may wish to bring a jacket or jumper. 
  • Follow all instructions and requests from school representatives
  • Leave promptly once you have delivered your child/collected your child
  • Please note that in line with current government guidelines, extra cleaning will be taking place at our site before the morning session and again before the afternoon session.
  • We ask that only one parent drop off and collect the candidate for the SET and where possible, this adult is asked to wear a mask please. 
  • If travelling by car, please be advised that there is no parking on site (unless a Blue Badge holder has agreed prior to the SET that they can park on site) and we would ask that you perhaps park a short distance away from the school and walk the last few minutes to avoid congestion. 
  • Please do not park in Manor Way or Derek Avenue, which are the 2 closest roads to the school. 
  • Alternatively, use public transport to travel to our site. 
  • Please ensure that the candidate is dropped off and collected at the time specified. 
  • Wallington County Grammar School hold morning and afternoon sessions for the SET.

Please ensure your email is sent in to the Admissions Officer using the email address of admissions@wcgs.org.uk with your supporting documentation. 

 

 

TIMINGS FOR THE SET ON 14TH SEPTEMBER 2021

AM SESSION

  • Gates will open at 8.00am
  • Your invitation email will tell you whether you need to go to the Sports Hall Gate (gold entrance), Vehicle Gate (blue entrance) or Pedestrian Gate (lilac) entrance. 
  • Your child must be seated by latest 9.00am, or they will be directed to sit their test in the Late Room (where dismissal will be 45 minutes after all other candidates). 
  • There will be a 45 minute Maths Paper, a short 15 minute break, followed by a 45 minute English Paper. 
  • Students will be dismissed from 11.05am (slightly later in larger exam rooms).   
  • Please ensure all candidates are collected promptly. 

 

PM SESSION

  • Gates will open at 12.30pm.
  • Your invitation email will tell you whether you need to go to the Sports Hall Gate (gold entrance), Vehicle Gate (blue entrance) or Pedestrian Gate (lilac) entrance. 
  • Your child must be seated by latest 1.30pm, or they will be directed to sit their test in the Late Room (where dismissal will be 45 minutes after all other candidates). 
  • There will be a 45 minute Maths Paper, a short 15 minute break, followed by a 45 minute English Paper. 
  • Students will be dismissed from 3.35pm (slightly later in larger exam rooms).   
  • Please ensure all candidates are collected promptly. 

 

 

YOUR CHILD WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE TEST:

  1. A printout of the invitation email which will be sent to you before the test. This contains your child’s venue details, their 8 digit unique candidate number and the Gate Entrance you must report to at your designated centre.   
  2. Two pencils (HB or B), a soft rubber, a pencil sharpener and a ruler in a clear plastic pencil case or transparent bag. Please ensure spare resources are brought to the test (so spare pencils, a spare pencil sharpener and a spare ruler).
  3. A fleece or jumper in case it is quite cool in their exam room.
  4. If desired, water in a clear plastic sports cap bottle with the label removed (no fizzy drinks) and a snack for break time (NO NUTS due to the number of children who suffer from nut allergies).
  5. A reading book to help pass waiting time before the first test commences and during the break between tests. This book has no relevance at all to the examination and should be a book that is read for pleasure. 
  6. Tissues and personal hand sanitiser.

 

YOUR CHILD MUST NOT BRING:

  1. A mobile telephone or any other electronic device (if one is brought on site is must be turned off and placed under the candidate's exam desk).
  2. A calculator or calculator watch.
  3. A watch that beeps
  4. Any piece of stationery which displays times tables or other such information.
  5. A dictionary
  6. Any food containing nuts

Do not show us your child’s candidate number on a smartphone. You must have a printout with his/her candidate number when you arrive for the test.

Please do not send your child to the exam with a large backpack or any other large bag as space in the exam room is limited.
