Key Dates for Year 7 Entry

On 1st March 2021 (National Offer Day) you will receive notification from your Local Authority whether or not you have been successful in being offered a place at Wallington County Grammar School.

 

If your son has been offered a place at our School:

You will be emailed an offer letter and an acceptance/decline form from Wallington County Grammar School (WCGS). We ask that always accept or decline any offer of a place with your Local Authority as well as informing the School.

  • If you wish to decline your offer, please do let the school know of your decision as well as informing the Local Authority.
  • If you wish to accept this offer of a place, please complete the acceptance form and return it to the school with a copy of your son's birth certificate. 

If you are accepting this offer, at a later date you will be emailed additional forms that will require completion and returning to the school. This may be either before or after Easter in April 2021.  

Waiting List for Year 7

Your son will be on a ranked Year 7 waiting list if:

  • If your son reached the WCGS pass mark from last year's SET, and
  • you listed our School as a preference on your CAF, and
  • You were not offered a place at our school, but you listed WCGS as a higher preference on your CAF than the offer you have been made by the Local Authority.
  • Only then will your son's details will be held on a ranked Year 7 waiting list at our school. 

Waiting list positions

Year 7 waiting list positions will be available from 16th March 2021 and will be communicated to you via email. Please do not contact the School regularly to ask about waiting list positions as if your son reaches the top of this ranked waiting list and we have a vacancy we can offer him, the Admissions Officer, Mrs Waters, will contact you in the first instance by telephone to inform you of the vacancy. This ranked waiting list for Year 7 will stay in operation until the end of the Autumn term in 2021 (so from the end of March 2021 to 31st December 2021).   

Be advised that waiting list positions may go down as well as up. 

The amount of movement on the ranked year 7 waiting list can differ greatly each year, so it is very difficult to gage whether your son is likely to be offered a place.

If your son's details are still on our ranked Year 7 waiting list in December 2021, please be aware that you will receive an email in December 2021 informing you that this waiting list will be cancelled on 31st December 2021. At this time you will be given the opportunity to transfer your son's details to a non-ranked waiting list from January 2022, so if a future vacancy were to arise your son would be invited in to our school to sit another entrance test.    

Appeals

If you have not been offered a place at Wallington County Grammar School and wish to appeal against this decision, please refer to the Appeals section of this website for further information. We ask that appeals please be lodged within 20 School days from National Offer Day please (by Monday 29th March 2021) in order for all Year 7 appeals to be heard on the same day in the summer term.

 

Transferring to Secondary School in 2022

If your son is transferring to secondary school in 2022, please note that the Selective Eligibility Test will be held on Tuesday 14th September 2021.

National Offer Day. Notifications of all Secondary School offers will be sent to parents/carers by their Home Local Authority.

From 3rd March 2021 

If your son has been successful in being offered a place at our school, an offer letter and acceptance form will be emailed to you shortly after National Offer Day.

mid March 2021

Acceptance forms that require completion must be returned to Wallington County Grammar School by 17th March 2021, along with a copy of your son birth certificate. 

If you wish to decline your offer of a place, please still notify the School as well as your Local Authority. 

Please also now review the Year 7 Induction Pack on this website for other documents relevant to our school. 

April/May 2021 (unless otherwise specified)

If any other forms in the Year 7 Induction Pack are relevant to you and your son, please complete them and return them to the relevant member of staff at the school. 

  • Form for music lessons (to be sent to the Music Department)
  • Form for applying for Free school Meals (to be sent the Registrar with your supporting documentation) 
  • Forms for the Finance Department (to be sent to the Finance Department)
  • Forms for the PTFA (to be sent to the PTFA)

please mark your envelope accordingly if you are posting these forms to the school. Alternatively email them to the school using the general email address of enquiries@wcgs.foliotrust.uk.

Induction Meeting

From 29th March 2021 the Headmaster (Mr Bean) and the Head of Keystage 3 (Mr Jones) will be recording and publishing speeches on this website for new Year 7 parents to watch.

May 2021

Student house allocations will be communicated to all new Year 7 parents/carers via email by the end of May 2021. Your son's 'house' information will be needed when you purchase house-specific Sports/PE kit.

Induction Days

The Induction Days planned for 21st, 22nd, 28th & 29th June have been cancelled.

17/06/2021 - UPDATE:
A one half day Induction Day is now being planned for Monday 19th July 2021. Please arrive at 8.15am and collect your son promptly at 1.00pm.

A separate communication regarding this day and what your son should bring with him will be sent to you by Mr Jones, Head of Keystage 3.

'MEET THE HEAD' MEETINGS ARE NOW BEING HELD VIA ZOOM MEETINGS on the day and time planned as below 

Meet the Headmaster meetings:

Bridges - Wednesday 14th July 2021 - 9.30am

Carew - Wednesday 14th July 2021 - 11.30am

Mandeville - Wednesday 14th July 2021 - 1.30pm

Radcliffe - Friday 16th July 2021 - 9.30am

Ruskin - Friday 16th July 2021 - 11.30am

Woodcote - Friday 16th July 2021 - 1.30pm

These meetings will give parents the opportunity to meet the Headmaster on a more informal basis by House group and meet other parents/carers within the same House group as your son.

Please note: Parents/Carers ONLY are invited to this event. These meetings will last for approximately one hour.

Please be advised, if you are unable to attend this event there will be no further opportunity for you to attend a 'Meet The Headmaster' meeting as only 1 meeting is organised per House group.

Zoom invitations will be emailed to parents a couple of days before these events.
